The controversy between Messrs. Stoddert and Greenleaf has already, perhaps, gone too far for a newspaper publication. Nothing but the peculiar circumstances connected with it could have induced the editor to admit several of the pieces which have appeared. The parties have been apprised, at every stage of the discussion, that there was a point beyond which publications would not be admitted. If that point is not yet reached, it is certainly rapidly approaching. The editor, therefore, states his purpose, should there be any reply offered to Mr. Stoddert's piece of to-day, to hand it, previous to insertion, to the opposite party, and to close all further publications, by admitting in the same paper whatever shall be offered by Mr. S. and Mr. G--.
