Full Text

His Trust.

He said, "If I had money,
I'd be happy every day
Giving gladness to the orphans
Driving poor men's woes away.

By chance he won a fortune;
Then he gravely shook his head.
Having ceased to think of orphans,
And with wise conviction said:

"Wealth imposes care! My fortune
Is a trust consigned to me:
They are foolish, yea. and sinful.
Who distribute carelessly

"God has said that man must labor;
When you give, ambition dies.
Go, you beggars! Cease imploring;
I am weary of your cries."
