Full Text
It has been announced by the Boston and Maine Railroad that several important St. Johnsbury through main line trains will be discontinued, the new schedule to go into effect June 25. This action, according to the officials, is taken so as to make available the maximum transportation energy for moving fuel, food materials and troops necessary for the successful conduct of the war. The officials explain that the inconvenience to the government and the public caused by this reduction of passenger service will be far less than to fail to move all freight regularly and promptly and not to have an adequate fuel supply next winter.
The trains serving St. Johnsbury, to be discontinued, are as announced by the company:
Main Line (week days): Train No. 85, leaving Springfield 12.20 p.m., due Newport 9.10 p.m., discontinued north of Norwich and Hanover; Train No. 93, leaving St. Johnsbury 2.35 a.m., due Newport, Vt., 4.05 a.m.; Train No. 94, leaving Newport, Vt., 12.20 a.m., due St. Johnsbury 1.45 a.m.; and train No. 84, leaving Sherbrooke 7.45 a.m., due Springfield 6.30 p.m., discontinued north of Norwich and Hanover.
Sundays: Train No. 93 (as above); Train No. 94, (as above.)
