Full Text

We regret that modesty prevented our friend Barron, of the First Ward, from accepting the position of President of Council. Several of his friends urged him to accept, but he thought he was not sufficiently posted in parliamentary law to fill the position. He has the same opportunities to learn by practical experience as others, and we are sorry he declined. Our Ward was entitled to the honor, and as Mr. B. is the only member of the party in power who holds over from the last Council, all precedent demanded his appointment. We are glad to see, however, that he is likely to be of use on the floor and will probably be the leader of the Democratic forces. We noticed that Mayor Sargeant entrusted him with the resolutions and ordinances he (the Mayor) wished offered.
