Ray Weis, "Mala" Former Nome Boy In Show Tonight

The screen production "Eskimo," is well known to all oldtimers of Nome and Seward Peninsula.

He is a half-breed boy named Ray Weis.

Those who were in Nome two years ago will remember the M-G-M movie production which spent two summers and a winter around Nome and Teller filming this picture.

Another Nome native known very well Leo Charles.

Eskimos and natives from Teller were cast in the picture.

Leo Charles plays an accompanying lead with Mala, although subordinate. Today he is lying sick and bedridden with tuberculosis, in Nome.

As a picture, "Eskimo" is probably the best dramatization of the North which has ever been made. Earlier films depicting the North have been so cluttered up with superimposed scenes, and the lack of authenticity that they leave only room for derision, when seen by those who know the North.

But Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has filmed a great story and the scenes and acting were largely done in the North. It is a fine picture and is authentic to the point where real Eskimos at least supplying the male parts were used.
