The Philadelphia Riots.—Our news columns are nearly filled to-day with accounts of the terrible destruction of life and property which occurred last week in Philadelphia, to the great disgrace of the "city of brotherly love." In no other city of the Union has mob violence ever been allowed to riot so long unchecked: and nowhere else has it assumed so ferocious and sanguinary a character.
The "Native Americans" of Philadelphia have rendered themselves infamous as a party by their violation of law and order, and have shown that they are not a whit better qualified to govern themselves than the foreigners whom they oppose.
We hope it may be long before we shall again have to record such terrible transactions, there or elsewhere within the union, as they inflict disgrace upon our whole country, and particularly upon our system of Government, which is our boast and pride, in the eyes of all foreign nations.
