The Study Course which was held in the high school auditorium Monday evening for parents and teachers, members of the local unit and opened to the officers of the units of the other Onslow County schools was well attended and very successful, according to the report given yesterday by Mrs. G. E. Gardner, president of the Jacksonville P.-T.A.
The course entitled "Education For Responsible Parenthood" was taught by Miss Blanche Haley, state field secretary of the N. C. Congress of Parents and Teachers. Miss Haley presented her subject in a panel discussion form, and members of the class led by the thorough knowledge of her text very actively responded to her method, joining in the round table discussions, and forcefully stating their viewpoints to the leading questions.
The subject matter, concerning the child from conception through teen-age was very informative and well received.
Praise for Miss Haley's excellent manner of teaching and conducting the class has come from a number of people attending the session, among them Principal Cameron West and Grademother Chairman Mrs. Richard Weaver. Both Mrs. Weaver and West expressed regret that more parents did not take advantage of this opportunity of attending the course.
The session began at 6 o'clock and at 7:30 refreshments were served in the cafeteria. Mrs. Wyatt Morton, Mrs. A. B. Collins and Mrs. Frank Wilson prepared the refreshments which were provided by the local unit.
Representatives from the P.-T. A.'s of White Oak, Camp Lejeune, and Richlands schools were present. There were about 15 officers and parents from the Richlands unit. The total enrollment numbered approximately 70.
Mrs. Joe S. Johnson, District Director of the tenth district, met with the group. She spoke briefly, bringing greetings from the state officers. The 4-hour session was concluded at 10 p.m.
