IMPORTANT.

Capt. Story, who arrived at New York, on the 19th inst. in 47 days from Leghorn, informs, that on the 16th of August, off Malaga he was boarded by several officers from the British cutter L'Espoir, Capt. Hope, then only two days from Gibraltar. They informed Capt. Story, (and in such a way as to induce Capt. S. to believe the news), that authentic accounts had reached Gibraltar, direct, that on the 4th of August, the PRELIMINARIES of PEACE were signed at Madrid, between SPAIN and GREAT-BRITAIN-And that it was the general opinion, at Gibraltar that a GENERAL PEACE would soon take place.
