A man known as Simonton, in Knoxville, four years ago, but now who rejoices in the name of Price, and claiming to have been a member of the South Carolina Legislature for the past eighteen months, and on his way to visit his mother in Memphis, is victimizing the landlords and others of Tennessee towns. He has operated in Bristol, Jonesboro and Knoxville. He is armed with letters purporting to be from the Bishops and other distinguished persons of the Episcopal Church of South Carolina, and claims to have been run from his home by the Ku Klux persecutions. He is described as a large man, with rather a shy looking face, and rather dark complexion.
