Full Text

The mother of the English sailor, Jeffrey, who was put on an uninhabited island by Captain Lake, is still unwilling to believe that her son is alive. In a letter to a gentleman near Plymouth, [Eng.] dated Polperro, Cornwall, Oct. 4th, 1810, she says that in a certain affidavit pretended to be her son's, there is a cross instead of his signature, and her son could write a tolerably good hand: if he were alive he certainly would write to her, which he has not done. His mother has a second husband, and signs her name Hannah Coade. If Jeffrey be alive, and at Wenham in Massachusetts, as has been stated, and has written to his mother, his letter must have miscarried. His mother mentions a certain lease which her present husband holds depending on her son's life. Perhaps a service would be rendered, if some of the Massachusetts editors should give Jeffrey information of his mother's situation.
