CHICAGO, (AP) - The Soviet Union's first deputy premier, Frol Kozlov, irked over an experience with Michigan's Governor, came to Chicago today for a close-up look at U. S. steelmaking.
Kozlov and his touring party arrived by plane from Detroit where he told newsmen Governor G. Mennen Williams gave them an incorrect account of a private meeting of the two officials.
Williams had told reporters he had a "knock down and drag out" fight with Kozlov during an hour's talk Tuesday night. Kozlov told newsmen "the Governor is not too well acquainted with international politics and he is not too correct in giving his account to the press."
Williams had appraised Kozlov as shrewd and tough and said it will take a Yankee trader to beat him.
In his talk with reporters before leaving Detroit, Kozlov said:
"The peoples of Eastern European countries have governments of their own free choice. They have chosen the system they want to live under."
"The Governor bases his impressions and reactions on those who have fled these countries and who do not represent the peoples of those countries," Kozlov said of Williams.
