FORT VALLEY WINS FIRST AWARD IN THIRD ANNUAL STATE MUSIC FESTIVAL
Madison, East Depot, Carroll County Fitzgerald Win High Praises As They Receive Awards
ALL SCHOOLS LAUDED FOR WORK
The Third Annual State-wide Music Festival which came to a close Friday morning when the three schools were scheduled to stage one-act plays, a special feature of the affair this year met with remarkable success.
After a short musical program visitors assembled, Mrs. Essie M. presented Mrs. Florence Cole-Talbert, one of the judges who spoke at length concerning the progress the students have made in their appreciation for music.
She let fall many helpful points relative to choral numbers and methods of singing, tone quality and other technical points which lent much to the occasion. At the close of her remarks, she presented the first "A" Group award to Fort Valley high school, Mrs. L. M. Sims, graduate of Oberlin School of Music, director and second to Waycross.
In the 'B' groups Madison High school, won the first award while East Depot high school in LaGrange won second. The 'C' and 'D' groups were well-represented, the winners being Carroll County Training school and Fitzgerald high school.
The play, Under the Law directed by Professor Jesse Wilder, was enjoyed by all present.
The principal and faculty of Washington High school wish to thank their many friends for their hearty cooperation during the Festival.
