Yesterday Morning, at Half past nine o'Clock, the adjourned Cause between Lady Warren and Sir George came on before Doctor Bettworth, who, after hearing the Counsel on both Sides, observed, that, much to Sir George's Honour, in this libertine Age, there was no Charge in the Cause of his having broke his matrimonial Vow; notwithstanding it appeared that her Ladyship, unmindful of her Duty, had for some Time withdrawn herself from his Bed. He said, that to a delicate, sensible Mind, an unkind Look or Speech might give more mental Pain than a Blow would to a Mind not possessed of the finer Feelings, but that there was no Proof of an angry Word, of any Threat or Blow, being given by Sir George to his Lady; that, on the contrary, there was Proof in the Cause of the Lady's having not only called her Husband very opprobrious Names, but having struck him, &c. and that Sir George had bore all this Usage with a Socratic Temper; that he was, on those Occasions, all Mildness and Kindness. He said, that though they might live more happy separate than together, yet he had no legal Right to pronounce for a Separation; that there was not the least Foundation whatever for bringing this Suit; and that her Ladyship had failed in the only Part that was material in her Libel. After this Decision her Ladyship's Proctor stood up, and gave Notice that he should appeal to the Court of Arches.
