Full Text

We hear from Charlestown, N. A. that the persons (sent by the inhabitants on the Western, and some on the Eastern side of Connecticut river, under the assumed characters of Delegates from the pretended State of Vermont to Congress, to be admitted into the Union, as a fourteenth State, having been refused admission, until they relinquished all pretensions to jurisdiction East of said river.) were returned back, and made a report of said answer, or resolve of Congress; and it has had no kind of effect upon their measures, but rather made some restless spirits more resolute in their proceedings, to disturb the peace of the inhabitants, which will end in some consequences perhaps fatal to many; as they must not expect to lead the innocent people into an error, that Congress will ever retract the said resolve (which was remarkably unanimous) but if Vermont don't soon accept them, they will never have such another offer, and more than probable a positive denial of ever being recognized as a State will be the event, and their lands added to the States of New Hampshire and New-York:--A word to the wise is sufficient, Says the Proverb.--The idea of withstanding the efforts of America, is perfectly farcical, as we have great expectations and reasons to believe that the American army will soon have little else to do but to obey the commands of Congress, and reduce the refractory to reason and allegiance.
