BY THIS DAY'S MAIL.

NEW-YORK, August 27.

In defaming the character of the Swiss people (I was going to say nation!) our Jacobin prints quote from the French writers employed by the Directory. From the "refusal" that has taken place in that country, the purity of that source of information becomes questionable!

Both branches of the legislature of this state have unanimously agreed to address the President of the United States. The address breathes just indignation in regard to the infamous conduct of the French towards this country—and a determination to convince the world that we are not a divided people.

Resolutions are reported in the Senate of this state for instructing our Senators and Representatives in Congress to obtain an amendment to the Constitution, excluding from our councils all foreign influence.
