Full Text

Up in the highlands we are not in much need of hill-top reservations. We have mountains enough and to spare. Still we, as a part of the people who rely upon San Francisco as a place in which to do our shopping and see the sights that cities alone can offer, are interested in its most advantageous places. We sympathise with the Bulletin, therefore, when it says, as it does say, in its issue of Feb. 12: The crown of Telegraph Hill ought to be reserved for public use. It is the best lookout ground within the city limits. It commands a view of the entire city, the Bay and the Golden Gate. The hill is resorted to by many thousands, hundreds going there on a single pleasant day. A few public spirited citizens have taken the initiative for the purchase of at least four 50 vara lots on the hill. Captain J. M. McDonald has offered to subscribe liberally for this object, and is interesting other citizens in the same good cause. By all means let the purchase be made. It would be a misfortune if access to Telegraph Hill were closed to the public.
