On Monday last this body entered upon its labors under the New Constitution. From the promptness with which Members repaired to the metropolis—all the Senators except one having taken their seats the first day, and Representatives except six—we anticipate the most favorable results. Mr. Munford was elected Clerk, Mr. Banks to the Chair, Mr. Francisco to be Sergeant at Arms, Mr. Stubblefield 1st Door Keeper, and Mr. Southall 2d Door Keeper. The House resolved to dispense with a third door keeper. It is gratifying to observe the handsome manner with which our talented townsman T. W. Gilmer, Esq. was nominated and supported for the Speaker's Chair, having received 24 votes at the 2d ballot. The Governor's communication, of about two and a half columns of the Enquirer, is received, but we are unable to give it this week. It is pronounced excellent by the Enquirer, and the Whig says "it is a Document of much interest, which the majority perhaps will entirely sanction."
