Governor John G. Richards heartily endorses the Citizens' Military Training camps to be held in South Carolina, from June 15 to July 14, according to a letter sent to Major General Malin Craig, at his headquarters in Atlanta.
In his letter, Governor Richards says: "I am acquainted with the fact that South Carolina has been requested to send 557 young men to camps at Fort Moultrie, S. C., and Fort Bragg, N. C. I am especially pleased that the historic post of Fort Moultrie is to be utilized this summer for this type of activity.
"South Carolina is a pioneer in the initiation of military training for her youth and is proud of her military and agricultural colleges the citadel and Clemson, where more than 1,500 cadets are undergoing training.
"I believe that the wholesome military exercises and the association in friendly athletic sports which takes place in the Citizens Military Training camps, together with the inculcation of the principles of citizenship, loyalty to the flag and country, and self discipline must be of benefit to our boys. I am pleased therefore to extend to you my hearty co-operation in the matter of this important work."
