THE KILKENNY CATS.
We are really concerned to learn, that a difficulty, if not a bloody fight, is likely to take place between our very particular friends, Dr. Caleb S. M-- and Maj. (we beg pardon) Mr. William McK. B--. The point at issue is this, the office of Register of the Land-office at Batesville, has been promised to both of these worthies, that is, if they spread themselves in the election for Delegate to Congress. Now, we are of opinion, that this matter might be amicably settled. M-- told two respectable citizens of Independence county, (who will at any moment swear to the fact.) that Col. Sevier had promised him, if he would support him (Sevier) efficiently and actively in the present election, he would remove Boswell, and procure for him (M--) the appointment of Register of the Batesville Land-office. Finding that this buying-up system was likely to operate injuriously to Col. Sevier, M-- thought it a prudent step to deny (altho' it can be proved that he said it was) that the office was promised him. As M-- has denied that such was the fact, and there being a total absence of proof, that B-- has waived his right and claim to it, we are decidedly of opinion, that M-- has forfeited all claims he may heretofore have had upon Col. Sevier for the appointment, and that he is forever bound to hold his peace, and that the aforesaid McB-- claims are paramount to all others, and are entitled to due consideration.
