ON PEACE.

The following extract of a letter dated 1st of August written by an intelligent gentleman

necessary to receive the earliest intelligence of so important an event with France is made. It is not yet officially announced but from good authority, I know it was signed two days ago.

Another letter states, that no progress has been made in the negotiation with Spain, in consequence of the impediments of France. The latter viewing the United States with a jealous eye.
