AN EARLY MORNING FIRE.
The Capital
Furniture
Company's
Building
Destroyed.

At 3 a. m. an alarm of fire was turned
in for what was seemingly a small blaze
in a cottage on the northeast corner of
the alley Sixth and Seventh, H and I
streets, but by the time the department
arrived the flames had spread to the
Capital Furniture Company's building
next door, which was soon a mass of
flames.

A second alarm was turned in, but
the fire had gained such headway that
nothing could be saved from the alley
clear up to H street.

The department was crippled by No.
1's engine breaking down while turning
Third and I streets, rendering it useless.
It is rumored that one or more horses
were burned to death.

At this hour (3:30 a. m.) the fire was
still burning.
