DEAR SIR—I have examined with care portions of the first volume of your edition of Meigs' Digest; my attention having been more particularly directed to the titles Administration, Attachment, Chancery, Chancery Pleading and Chancery Practice. The result of my examination is, that thus far your work is eminently successful, and that you are doing the bench and bar excellent service in preparing and issuing this edition of Meigs' Digest.

It has long been desired that this most admirable of all our Digests should be extended and brought down to the present day by some competent, faithful, painstaking lawyer. The present volume bears strong evidence of great care, labor, accuracy, and discrimination in its preparation, and gives high assurance that the entire work will be successfully and faithfully done.

Of course, I need not speak of the style and arrangement of the work; it is enough to say that you have adopted and faithfully followed Mr. Meigs in these matters.

You have done the profession a great service, too, in incorporating in the Digest, the very valuable decisions of Chancellor Cooper, which are found in his three volumes of Tennessee Chancery Reports. These are admirable Reports, and are justly held in high esteem by the bench and profession of the State.

Your purpose to include in the work a full Citation of Tennessee Cases, on the plan of 'Digest's Federal Citations,' will add much to the value of the Digest.

Wishing you the fullest measure of success in your great undertaking and that the remainder of the work may be speedily consummated, I remain,

Very truly,

H. J. LIVINGSTON.
