Scenes From Beach High Graduation And Prom
MY CAMERA AND ME
By FRANK FREEMAN

(Education, Dignity and Punctuality featured at graduation exercises of Beach High School). Principal Haynes, Prof. Donnelly and the entire faculty are to be commended for preparing such a fine program. The class of 1947 was far reaching in their thoughts by having President Troup from Fort Valley College as their speaker. Had President Troup not delivered his address in the stirring manner as he most certainly did his supporting cast last Wednesday night would have competed with him for honors because young Davis Brown graduate of this class and a very promising baritone sang to the delight of the entire audience. Johnnie Mae Capers a member of the Junior class sang beautifully and my personal orchid to Miss Capers for her refined and dignified manner during the entire program. You are a credit to dear old Beach. Certainly a reflection from good home training. There were forty-five students presented for graduation with fifteen of them being World War II Veterans. After the presentation of the diplomas by Principal Haynes and Dr. Ralph M. Gilbert, a short pep talk was given by Rev. Gilbert along with the much deserved complimentary remarks about President Troup's inspiring address. During my mingling around the graduates after the program the theme statement seemed to have been 'We were fortunate to have President Troup for our speaker.' Beach N.H.A. of which Mrs. Ida Bell presented Miss Claudia Rivers with Gadsden is advisor, a scholarship of Twenty-five dollars and Mr. David Brown was awarded with Fifty dollars to further his musical ability. The benediction was given by Dr. O. S. Cleveland who is pastor of St. John Baptist Church located on East Hartridge street, where the exercises was held.

Mrs. Birdie Cleveland, wife of Dr. E. O. S. Cleveland, underwent an operation last week. As of press time her condition was reported very satisfactory. This column hopes for her a speedy recovery. Joe Timmons a vocalist of Nat Towles fame and a home product spend a few days in Savannah saying hello to old school friends. Joe reports his mission is en route for Miami, Florida, to give vent to his vocal chords at the Rockland Palace for a contract stretch beginning Jan. 28th.

The Senior Class of Beach High School presented Prof. Donnelly with a new fraternity pin at which time the ole school master thanked his class with watery eyes.

The first real lesson in punctuality was administered to Mr. and Mrs. Public the night of the Beach Hi graduation exercises when the front door of the church was closed promptly at eight keeping a crowd on the outside trying to get in. The names of those who were patiently waiting to get in would grace the pages of Savannah's Sepia who is who. Our fair ladies who wear rolls in their hair, it certainly gives your hair dress a graceful look but why not be careful in covering your roll with your hair and if there isn't enough hair then you don't need the roll.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith and their two lovely daughters from Charleston, S. C., motored down as the guests of Lucky Millinder during his stay here. They were guests at Gus Cabins. The boys of Lucky Millinder's band enjoyed the wide open spaces at the farm so well that they decided to play cowboys and Indians. Lucky Millinder spent Sunday morning looking for a misplaced top coat not that he cared about the coat but the pockets were lined with GOLD.

Paul Breckenridge thrilled the capacity house at Lincoln Inn Sunday gone. Lucky Millinder is lucky to have a personality as Paul with his outfit. Meeting Paul personally I predict a great future for his endeavors. Mrs. Ida Hayes was praised by the orchestra for dishing out such fine foods at Lincoln Inn. Marie Orsot belated Christmas present was a mink coat from Tony which gives her a dashing Ann Southernish appearance. Dr. Margaret Williams Reed, daughter of Dr. I Damon Williams attending Lincoln Inn presentation of Millinders band and looking like what the boys call sharp as a tack.

The Junior Prom of Beach Hi was a delightful affair held at the S. S. S. S. last week. The auditorium was tastefully decorated. The girls beautifully gowned and the boys handsomely attired during the dancing period the atmosphere was that of definite refinement.

The Charity Hospital Nurses Aid did themselves one better by throwing a birthday party jointly for Miss Louise Capers, Miss Lillian Simmons and Carolyn Dixon January being the month these charming ladies first saw the light. That called for a mammoth birthday cake which This Corner thought there was enough room for each candle to represent a year of the ages so we could have some fun dividing and placing the right answer where the figures belonged.

When you decide to have your picture made at home telephone Frank's 3-7635 for an appointment.

Mr. and Mrs. De Coster of Charleston, S. C., were on an inspection visit to the new cabins. Mrs. De Coster will be remembered as the former Beautine Hubert.

And I want to be remembered as the person to end this scribble for This Fast-Growing Weekly-The Herald.
