Full Text

Louisiana Election.—We have some returns from Louisiana. Henry Johnson (Whig) has been re-elected to Congress from the N. Orleans district. Mr. Garland (Whig) will also be re-elected, and it is probable that Mr. Ripley (V.B.) will be re-elected, though he is opposed by Mr. Thomas. Party politics do not appear to have interfered much with the elections to the State Legislature. Four or five out of the seven N. O. delegates are for Van Buren. We think this, considering that last year all the delegates were Whigs, rather an unfavorable symptom for the success of Judge White in the State, and especially for the re-election of Mr. Porter to the Senate of the United States. Apart from politics, we should deplore the loss from the public councils of this generous, liberal statesman.
