London, May 22. On Sunday Night a melancholy Accident happen'd at the Pyed Horse in Chiswell-street, viz. one Mrs. German, who lived next Door, went into the said House to enquire for her Son, who was in Company; the Master of the House insisted on treating her with some Punch, and was going to fetch some Water from a Pump in the Artillery Ground, (having a Door from his own Yard into the said Ground:) Mrs. German, her Son, and two of the Company said, as it was fine Weather, they would go along with the Landlord for the Water, and accordingly they went all together into the Yard, where they were no sooner got than a large Mastiff belonging to the House flew upon Mrs. German, threw her down, and bit her by the Calf of the Leg, and afterwards fastened upon the upper Part of her Thigh, which he tore in such a Manner that She died in a few Minutes, nor could the Creature be got off till they cut his Throat; in endeavouring to get the Dog off, the Master of the House had one of his Hands tore in a very miserable Manner.
