ANTI-MASONIC CONVENTION.
A Convention of Anti-Masons was holden in this town on Wednesday and Thursday of last week, at which, delegates were present from all the counties in the State except Berkshire, Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket. The number of delegates present was near 500. The Convention was organized as follows :—
Pliny Merrick of Worcester. President—Abner Phelps of Suffolk. Joseph Ricketson of Bristol, William B. Breed of Essex, Elyphalet Kingman of Plymouth, William Whitaker of Franklin, Vice Presidents—Benjamin F. Hallett of Suffolk, Joshua B. Clapp of Hampden, John Burrage of Bristol, Edward Kirkland of Worcester, Secretaries.
On Thursday the following Candidates were nominated to be supported at the approaching election :—
For Governor, SAMUEL LATHROP—For Lieut. Governor, TIMOTHY FULLER. For Electors of President and Vice President : For Elector at Large, John D. Williams. Boston; for Suffolk Jacob Fall, Boston; Norfolk, John Bailey, Dorchester; Essex South. William B. Breed, Lynn ; Essex North, Thomas Payson, Rowley ; Middlesex. Benjamin Wyman, Woburn; Plymouth, Zechariah Eddy, Middleborough; Bristol,Joseph Ricketson, New Bedford; Worcester South, Pliny Merrick, Worcester; Worcester North. Stephen P. Gardner, Bolton; Hampden, John Chaffee, Springfield; Franklin, Asa Stebbins. Deerfield; Barnstable Benjamin Hallett, Sandwich.
Among the delegates already appointed to attend the National Republican Convention in this town on the 11th of Oct., we find the names of Nathaniel Silsbee, Leverett Saltonstall, and Rufus Choate, from Salem, and Daniel Webster, &c. from Boston. Several other towns have selected able delegations, and we hope to see a proper spirit,— one suited to the importance of the occasion,-prevail throughout the State, and that every town may be represented.
