Constantinople, July 10. N. S.

We have News enough here, but little that can't be depended on for certain. The Advices which are most Current here are these: Tis said, there are Ambassadors from Kouli Kan of Persia, upon the Road, who are not only bringing the Ratification of the Treaty of Peace concluded last Year, but are also charged to offer his Persian Majesty's Mediation for an Accommodation with Russia. But this Report, whether true or false, cannot wean the Publick from their Opinion, that the Bashaw of Babylon has a secret Understanding with that Monarch. The Rebel of Natolia becomes every Day more haughty and more powerful, by being joined by the Inhabitants of the Open Country, who Come from all Parts to list under his Standard.

Tis said, that the Turkish Flotilla has gain'd a considerable Advantage over that of Russia, but no Public Rejoicings have yet been made upon that Account; a Proof almost amounting to a Certainty, especially in this Country, that if there has been an Advantage gained, tis not of very great Importance. Four Turkish Gallies, and several Ships have been attacked at the Mouth of the Neister, by some Russian Ships from Oczakow, which took one of those Gallies, with some other Ships, and sunk several others to the Bottom.

All these Advices, whether well founded or not, have occasioned a sort of Tumult, and the Populace assembling before the Seraglio, and in the Public Places, so obstinately demanded the Deposition of the Tesierday, that it cou'd not be refused: for twas foreseen that on the Arrival of one or two more such ill Tidings, the Populace would not have been satisfied without the Deposing of the Kaimacan, and perhaps the Grand Vizier too.
