FALSEHOODS.
The organ of the negro suffrage ticket repeats the outrageous falsehood that Bailey
Davenport owes the county for unpaid taxes.
There is not one word of truth in the story.
He does not owe the county one dollar of
back taxes, and we offered, sometime since, a
hundred dollars to any man who would prove
that he did. No one attempted the task.
We repeat: Mr. Davenport does not owe
the county one dollar of back taxes, and any
man who says he does, states a falsehood.
If any of his lands have been sold for taxes
by
the county, he will lose the lands unless
he redeems them,--and if he does redeem
them, whoever bid them off gets double pay.
The combination of tax title court house
clique speculators know that the personal
warfare they have waged upon Mr. Daven-
port is a shameful one, and that it will ultimately react upon themselves.
The organ of the negro suffrage ticket also
tries to frighten and deceive people, in regard
to the amount paid the judge of probate, by
adding the amount paid the county clerk to
that paid the probate judge--thus malicious-
ly stating, for political effect, what is wholly
void of truth. The truth is, that the probate
judge has cost the people of this county only
$23.63 a month--and we don't think any decent man will complain at that.
