TELEGRAPH
NIGHT REPORT.

LOUISIANA.
The Returning Board.

New Orleans, Nov. 25.—The returning
board met at 11:30. Present for
the Republicans, Messrs. Stoughton,
Van Allen, Wilson, Kelley and Parker;
for the Democrats, Palmer, Trumbull,
G. B. Smith, Bigler and Julian.

The minutes having been read,
Judge Spafford suggested that the order
for the production of the East Baton
Rouge ballot box was not in the minutes.
Governor Wells said the entry
would be made in the minutes to be
adopted, and that he must dispense
with the reading of any protests or motions
before the board; that all evidence
must be in before the close of the coming
week, or the board would not be
able to get through its deliberations.

Colonel Zacharie inquired whether
the board had determined to fill the vacancy,
as it was more necessary to
have a representative on the board toward
the close of its deliberations than
at any other time.

Governor Wells stated that the board
had never taken action on the matter.
Colonel Zacharie asked if the board
had passed upon the applications,
Governor Wells said there had only
been one presented, that relative to Dr.
Kennedy. Wells intimated that the
Democrats had lost any claim to representation
on the board by Mr. Arroyo's
resignation. He said the board would
try to fill the vacancy if it could agree
on any one. A long discussion followed
on trivial details.

In executive session the board called
for returns and announced the vote
from the consolidated statements: DeSoto,
Hayes 898, Tilden 1300; Ouachita,
Hayes 793, Tilden 1869; Lincoln, Hayes
331, Tilden 1064; East Feliciana, Hayes
none; Tilden 1737; West Feliciana,
Hayes 778, Tilden 1249; Richland,
Hayes 277, Tilden 970; Caddo, Hayes
2687, Tilden 1654; Sabine, Hayes 23,
Tilden 907. The votes of these parishes
were not canvassed, there being
contests.
