Full Text
By undoubted authority we learn from Fort Nelson, that the Indians have been very peaceable in the Kentucky country since May: many Talks have been delivered to and from the numerous tribes in the north-western quarter; and the great warriors evince a very friendly turn of mind towards their brothers the Big Knives of America, and all their inferior kindred, however distantly related. An exchange of prisoners lately took place between the Commandant at the Falls of the Ohio, and the Shawnee tribe; a circumstance unprecedented with Savages. Among those we received is a young gentleman by the name of Johnson. The Indians have promised to return all the plunder they have taken, yet remaining in their hands. They are not well reconciled to their Fathers the English, who they say, have conducted them into a scrape, deserted, and left them to shift for themselves: They urge, that they have received many foolish Talks from the other side of the water, such as we suppose are generally used by the Ministry; it is suggested that they are induced to believe the Great Man there has not attended well to his Big Knives--that they have got very dull of late, and must be sharpened before they are fit for butchering again.
