A Pleasant Affair.
Last night about 8 o'clock a party of gentlemen who have taken a great deal of interest in the success of our driving park, called in a body at the office of George W. Allerton, who has for the past year acted so efficiently as secretary of the Association. Mr. Allerton was found at his desk hard at work on a program for next season's racing sport, and was quite surprised at the unexpected advent of a dozen or more of his friends after business hours. His surprise was possibly increased when Capt. Harmon, acting as spokesman for the party, addressed him in a brief but eloquent speech, which he commented on the excellent service Secretary Allerton had rendered the Association in the past without expectation of any remuneration, and concluded by presenting the astonished secretary a cane containing [gibberish omitted].
