PEACE TICKET FOR CONGRESS.

JAMES B. MASON, and

JOHN L. BOSS, jun. Esq'rs.

The Election takes place, on Tuesday, the 30th instant.

ELECTION APPROACHING!

Never, perhaps, since our existence as a nation, has the situation of our country been more critical or the duties of our citizens more arduous and imperative, than at the present portentous crisis--We are involved in a war, deemed, by many, to have been unjust in its origin, and admitted, by all, to have been premature in its declaration--a war which has caused an immense expenditure of blood and treasure, without the prospect of effecting a solitary object for which it was declared.

The administration were encouraged to engage in this unprofitable contest, by such miserable and dishonest politicians as Varnum, Seyyer, Widgery, &c. who gave assurances of the cordial and undivided support of the New England States. War, in all probability, would not have been declared, unless a reliance had been placed on these assurances, and cannot long be continued, unless the people fulfil the rash promises of those who so grossly misrepresented them.

After Rhode Island has registered her vote against the declaration of war, after she has persevered, for six years, in the ways of well doing, will she rescind her vote--will she again betray into those devious paths, where the serpent of democracy winds its insidious course, and, where nothing vegetates but rank and unwholesome weeds? No! she will not retract her opinion, she will remain true to federalism, true to herself and true to the interests of her country. It therefore becomes the citizens of Rhode-Island to elect men to office, who will not aid in the prosecution of an offensive war, and who will not strengthen the arm of government, by their co-operation.

Such men are Messrs. Mason and Boss, the proposed candidates for Congress.--The important office they have sustained furnishes a sufficient evidence of their ability to discharge the duty of Representatives in Congress, and their patriotism and intelligence afford a satisfactory guarantee that they will consult, in their legislative capacities, the interests of our State and country. They are admirably calculated to "debate on commonwealth affairs," and their Northern feelings will exempt them from all fear of the "thunder and lightning" of Southern declaimers.

In deciding between the rival candidates, the freemen of Rhode-Island will decide between Peace and War, between Federalism and Democracy, between the Virginian dynasty and a government of the people. These are the important questions to be determined, and from vigilance and unanimity the happiest result must accrue.

As it is of manifest importance that the federal candidates should be elected by an overwhelming majority it is hoped, that on the last Tuesday of the present month, no frivolous cause will prevent the freemen from a general and punctual attendance at the polls. It is hoped and confidently expected that the croakings of the war party will be drowned amid the loud and appalling thunder of an indignant people.

Federalists! your opponents have invited you to union, in language of "court insincerity" they have told you, in a plausible, penitential tone, that, you are "an injured party"--As you value your own and your country's welfare, beware how you listen to the wiles and incantations of democracy; beware that you are not seduced, by meretricious blandishments into a foul embrace. Suffer not the pure fountain of federal waters to be poisoned by any connexion with the standing pool of democracy. 'Prove to your opponents and the world, your determination not to be persuaded or compelled to do wrong. Prove to them and the world, that you are "firm of purpose," and that the rights which you have the favour to exercise, you want not the valour to defend.
