PIRACY.

We have already given the particulars of the recent robberies below New-Orleans. The following letter, from the Louisiana Gazette, contains something new on the subject:

Extract of a letter received in town from a passenger on board the brig Calypso, dated Balize, July 11.

"We arrived here last night, all well and expected in the course of the day to go to sea. Last evening about half past five o'clock, six miles above the Balize, we were boarded by a boat containing nine men, who having taken possession of the brig, and confined us all below, began to make a general search, and took from us every thing of value they could lay their hands on. They then wished us a safe voyage, and made for the rest of the vessels in sight, all of which shared the same fate. These fellows have a fine boat, (much like the mail boat,) and were completely armed—each man having a pair of pistols, a sword, a dirk, and muskets. Two passengers were robbed of 731 dollars, in specie; and, in short, we were robbed of whatever we had; they took even our boots and hats—and, from my desk, both ink stands and penknife, and twenty dollars in cash. They said it was too hard times, and they must "live," and very composedly ordered me to drink with them and of my own wine. Said I was a d—d good fellow, and must have been a privateersman myself, else I should not have known how to have treated them so well."
