Highway Petitions Are in Circulation
Petitions are in circulation which contemplate bonding the county for $1,000,000 for the construction of 100 miles of highway. This calls for the appointment of a highway commission. The petition follows:
"To the Honorable Board of Supervisors, Imperial County, El Centro, California—Gentlemen: We, the undersigned freeholders and electors of the County of Imperial, pray your honorable body to submit the matter of issuing bonds, for the purpose of obtaining money to be expended for the improvement of highways in Imperial County, to the voters of said county as soon as practical under the restrictions and provisions as provided in Chapter 349, Statutes of 1907; and that you immediately appoint a highway commission whose duty it shall be to proceed at once with all diligence to investigate carefully the public highways of the county and the condition thereof, and to have made a map showing the public highways, their connections, and such other information in regard thereto as the commission may seem necessary for carrying out the provisions of this act, and to ascertain which of said public highways should be improved by the issuance of bonds, and the kind of improvements to be made thereon, and to estimate the cost of such improvements, and to report their doings to your honorable body."
