TO CORRESPONDENTS.

One of our correspondents, whom we highly esteem, as a worthy minister of the gospel, and a sincere christian, is very desirous, that, at least, half of the first page of each No. of our paper, should be filled with original communications from the pens of men of our denomination, and offers to be one of twelve to furnish matter for that purpose. This offer is peculiarly gratifying to us, as we believe the one who made it has the cause of Jesus at heart, and that the productions of his pen will be calculated to promote it; and because we have always been aware that our paper was greatly deficient in original compositions. We are, therefore, encouraged by the resolution of our brother. And is there not as many as eleven others among all our brethren, who will do as much? We believe there is; and we hope that they will come forward and co-operate with our brother in supplying matter for the space alluded to. There are subjects of vital importance to the prosperity of our Connexion, and to the continuance and increase of pure and undefiled religion among us, and in the world, which need attention: and shall those brethren who are convinced that this is the case, remain inactive? Under God, the press has been the instrument of accomplishing wonders in the cause of the glorious Immanuel in the last hundred years; and wonders yet remain to be accomplished for Zion through this medium.

Other denominations of christians are all alive; their forces, well marshalled, are in the field; and they are making every exertion, and using every means to build up Zion and disseminate their favorite doctrines. Not only are their preachers engaged in the work; but they have applied to the press for her powerful aid. Witness their numerous periodicals, their Tract Societies, and their "Book Concerns." The enemies of the cross, too, have taken to their assistance this mighty engine and are thereby scattering their baleful and deleterious doctrines far and wide. And shall not the Free-Will Baptists also have the benefit of the press? Yes—We have it already, and let us be more careful in future to secure its advantages.

The Star was established for the advancement and defence of the principles of the Free-Will Baptists (which its conductors firmly believe to be the principles of the Bible,) to advocate their interests, and support their cause. For these purposes it is still continued, and in this service it shall stand or fall. By continuing to pursue this course, its conductors hope to make it of some small benefit to the great cause of religion. At least, they are resolved to make every effort to constitute it an instrument of usefulness to Zion. In this important work, they need the co-operation of their brethren. Should any of them on reading the resolution of our correspondent, come to the conclusion to join him, we wish them to inform us, that we may publish their resolution for his encouragement and the encouragement of others.

If such an arrangement should be made, it would not in the least infringe upon the rights of those who wish to contribute something, but not so much as two columns per quarter. We should be far from complaining if our correspondents should furnish a sufficient quantity of original communications to occupy the whole of the first page of each No. of our paper.

We trust that our brother, who made the above proposal, will proceed in the work, though he should be disappointed of seeing others engage in the undertaking.
