Cousin to a Fact—There have been a number of rumors circulated here of late to the effect that a stone building would be erected from the artificial stone by Mr. Yesler. First it was reported that the old Frauenthal building was going to be demolished and a fine two story stone structure erected in its place; then rumor had it that Mr. Yesler would tear down his dwelling house and build of stone on the site. All these reports were without foundation in fact. The proprietors of the artificial stone have been very anxious, however, to have a building constructed of that material here, and have tried to induce Mr. Yesler to put up a building. He finally made the proposition, which they now propose to accept, that he would furnish a lot and they might erect a two story stone building on it, and if the material of which it is to be constructed proves to be as good as recommended, after one year's time from the date of its construction, he would pay them for the building at a price agreed upon in the outset; but if the stone should prove not durable as represented after one year's trial, then they would forfeit the price of it. The site for the building has not yet been selected, but it will be located probably somewhere on Front street. Mr. Isaac Palmer is at work on the plans and specifications. The proprietors of the artificial stone evidently mean business this time, and we may expect to see a practical test made here. If it proves to be all that is claimed for it, we shall undoubtedly have ere long several fine fire-proof buildings constructed of that material in the business portion of the city.
