We learn that various railroad companies owning the routes between Albany and Buffalo, at a meeting held in August, resolved to recommend to the Towanda Railroad Company, one of the link, to raise the question of the validity of the Post Office laws, and the obligations of the railroads under the laws of Congress; and also the validity of their contracts restricting them from carrying any mailable matter. They also resolved to request the Hopawanda Company to test the question as to their rights and duties, as common carriers, by amicable suits, or suits with Livingston, Wells and Pomeroy, or any person or persons, and also with the Postmaster General.
This will open the whole question, and will result in the settlement of the constitutional points also. The vote was unanimous with all the companies present except one, and this exception was made because the company dissenting had already excluded all such terms and conditions in the contract with the Department.
