Observations
Tomorrow Sunday. Dec. 26. 5:30 p m, 558 Mass. Ave., comes the regular monthly meeting of the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Musical Association. Rev. Della Potter of Christ Temple will be the speaker. and she may sing a piece for you, too. Other soloists are Cora Heggie Taylor, soprano, and Gertrude Hamlin, soprano. My Marion-ettes, who have never deserted me, will donate a selection or two. They are Margaret Foster, Essie O'Banyoun, Handsome Crayton and Beatrice Mitchell. I am sponsoring the program and hope to see you there.
Will the coming generations deride the activities of the present generation as many of us are wont to deride those of past generations? I think not, Growing intelligence will forbid the making light of what we are doing today. The growing employment of skill and knowledge in all the arts and sciences are bound to increase the facilities of future. generations for hastening on the earth to the perfection which Moses doubtless had in mind when he transmitted the message from his God to "subdue the earth." All activities of the past are but stepping stones to the activities of the present; likewise those of the present are building foundations for those of the future. When the earth is finished it will be a perfect unit, inhabited by a perfect race, and everything will be perfect. There'll be no more blue notes in music which, I believe, is an art which will be practised in eternity. There are many musical creations which have stood the test of time and are called traditional. Another testimony to the fact that what is good will endure; what is bad will be scrapped and forgotten.
In keeping with the establishment of the brotherhood of man, let us encourage and boost those who are trying to progress in the divine art, making such contribution as is in our power for the future generations to improve upon.
