J. G. Lewis Again Heads La. Masons

BATON ROUGE (ANP) John Lewis Jr. of Scotlandville, La., was re-elected grand master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Louisiana Masons during the 57th grand lodge sessions held here last week. Prior to his re-election, the grand master disclosed in his annual report that the Louisiana order had 9,188 members in 46 lodges. Scholarships to sons and daughters of Masons had totaled $132,450. The winners are attending Dillard, Southern, Bishop and Xavier universities. His report also revealed that the order had a net balance of more than $400,000 in cash, real estate and bonds. During the session, the state body formally dedicated its new $325,000 office building. It also endorsed an annual pilgrimage to Boston in celebration of the founding of the Prince Hall Masons in this country in 1784 by Prince Hall. The original charter issued to Prince Hall and establishing the legal lineage of the order is on display there.
