Cotton Worm.

Some time last fall the Banner published a communication from Mr. Thomas Brandon Shannon, of Plantersville, Grimes county, on the prevention of the cotton worm. He sends the following specifications as submitted to the agricultural society:

1st. I propose to top the cotton immediately on the first appearance of the miller or cotton fly.

2nd. I propose—the cotton being topped—to follow immediately with plow or with brush (trimmed and arranged in such manner as not to bruise or tear the bush.) With cold water distributed through or by instruments made for the distribution of poisons, with rotating fans or any other harmless practice that will produce a frequent stir or shaking of the bush. The oftener the farmer can produce this agitation among his cotton stalks the more complete his success.

3rd. I propose that the treatment recommended in specification 2 be diligently administered until the farmer sees his cotton entering its last stage of maturity.
