The following from the Weston Democrat, which we have not yet seen denied, is but a sample of the outrages that have been perpetrated upon the people of this State for the last five years:-
To Wm. E. Stevenson, Governor &c.:
It is said that on the 15th day of July last, Moses Cunningham, of Braxton, did address to you a letter, stating that he "expected to register the voters of his (Clay) township," and asking you for instructions as to the performance of his duties. You, supposing him to be Elias Cunningham, did reply to that letter, and told him substantially that he must refuse to register all he could and help to strike off as many as possible—as such a course was absolutely necessary to the success of the Republican party. You further told him not to get into trouble if he could help it, but that in case he did there was plenty of money ready to take him out.
We ask you to deny these charges. It should not be said that the Governor of this State, because he is a candidate for re-election, has, by his own act, proven himself a scoundrel. Let this matter be cleared up. If the Governor did not write the letter above referred to, let him say so in any one or more of the public prints of the State.
