In the Packet came Passenger a Seaman named Edward Mariner, who was taken at Oswego: He, in Company Mr. John Walters, of this Place, Robert Lburn and others from Philadelphia; Capt. Ruco, Lieutenant Bickers and Private with Ensign Ogden, of the New Jersey Provincial Forces and 299 more, sailed from Quebec the 18th of July last. in a Cartel, and arrived at Plymouth, in 28 Days: He informs us, That when he left Canada, There was only 5 Regiments of Regulars in that Province, and not one Ship of War in the Harbour of Quebec; but in going down the River Lawrence, they met about 20 sail of Transports under Convoy of 2 Men of War and a Frigate, going up, from France; that the brave Col. Peter Schuyler was in Health, and the great support of many English Prisoners without whose Assistance, several of them would have been reduced to the greatest Extremities. Capt. Farmer Son of Mr. Japhe Farmer, of this City, was likewise Prisoner at Quebec, when our Informant came away, with several others whose Names he could not recollect; and as Provisions were very scarce when he left that Place, 'twas thought the Remainder of the Prisoners were to be Sent to Old France in the Fall.
