The slaying of a 22-year-old woman listed as Miss Helen Drennons of 415 Foundry Street who was pronounced dead on arrival at Grady hospital around 6:30 o'clock Saturday evening, was believed solved Sunday morning, with the voluntary surrender of another young woman who gave her name as Eddie Frank Ballard, 23, of rear 224 William Street.
According to police records, Miss Ballard was arrested by Sexton who answered a call at Humphries Street. The woman is said to have told the officer that she had stabbed a girl during a fight Saturday evening and learned that the girl had died and that she wanted to give up.
In relating her version of the incident the arrested woman stated that she and the slain woman had become involved in a fight during so on Saturday at 143 Manon street but were separated by another woman.
Later she stated that they became entangled in another fight in rear of 143 Magnolia Place and in this encounter she stated that she stabbed the victim several times and let her go.
Miss Drennons was rushed to Grady hospital via a Dunn Brothers ambulance and pronounced dead on arrival. It was revealed that the victim had been stabbed once in the left breast, once in the center of the chest, twice in the arm and once in her right hand.
