Yesterday Morning between 3 and 4 o'Clock, a Fire broke out in the Cabin of a Sloop belonging to Mr. Vans, of this Town, and commanded by Capt. Harlow, lying at a Wharf at the North End, which having communicated to about half a Barrel of Powder before it was discovered, it blew up with a loud Noise and immediately set all the After Part of the Vessel in Flames, almost the whole of which, together with the under Side of the Main Deck, and some of the Lading were burnt; and as they were obliged to sink the Vessel before the Fire could be extinguised, the rest of the Cargo will be greatly damaged, he being fully loaded and ready to sail for the West Indies: The Fire did also considerable Damage to the Wharf, and a large Parcel of Pine Boards that lay on it. Tis not known how the Fire happened.
