THE LATE MESSAGE.

We discover in the President's recent Message to Congress, covering the South Carolina documents, nothing but a disposition to do his duty firmly and faithfully, and an anxiety to have the laws so framed and prepared as to prevent, as far as possible, any collision with the State authorities, in their execution. It is a mild, temperate, and able paper, prepared in a proper spirit, and every way suitable to the occasion. As South Carolina will not, because she has not the shadow of an excuse for so doing, claim the revolutionary right of resistance, and proclaim her Independence as a new nation among the nations of the earth, but persists in remaining in the Union, and yet refusing to obey its laws, although our individual opinion is that she should be 'declared no longer one of us,' without any further steps being taken, yet we are aware that the President has his high constitutional duties to perform under the laws of his country, and we believe he will be sustained by an overwhelming majority of the people in the just exercise of all his legal powers, to render this Union indissoluble. As the President found us one of the warmest, most decided, and persevering of the opponents to his election, so now will he find us, with the same honest motives, the same conscientious views, with the firmest and staunchest of his supporters in every effort of his which we believe to be made to advance the interests, promote the happiness and secure the Union of our beloved country. The miserable turmoil of party politics ought to be suspended, while such questions as are now before us are agitating the nation. We profess to disregard, in this crisis, every other consideration, save the stability of our free institutions.
