NEW YEAR WISHES

To The Worcester Democrat

May a very prosperous New Year
Be yours dear Democrat,
A happy, happy New Year
All your friends are wishing that—

If you must have many critics
That will find your pages good,
They do not hesitate to tell you
As friends and neighbors should.

May you never need the money
When a debtor fails to pay,
Never have a bill come due
Or have a rainy day.

Hope you never meet a fellow
That will pat you on the back,
And when you least expect it
Will maliciously attack.

May the New Year passing bring you
So much prosperity and luck
When troubles come they roll away
Like water on a duck.
