The editor of the Wisconsin Democrat has discovered, since the Locofoco Convention, that Gov. Dewey did not violate the Constitution when he signed the bill to violate a solemn contract made by the State with the State Printer, and thereby saddled upon us an unnecessary debt of several thousand dollars.
We think it would be well for Beriah to apply immediately for a copy-right for his article upon this subject, and without doubt, the Legislature will subscribe largely for copies to circulate among their constituents.
Gov. Dewey, in a letter to the editor of the Madison Democrat says:—"You did right when you assured our friends that I would not accept a nomination from the Free Soil Party."
So it would appear that the exertions of his friends to get him nominated by the Free Soilers, was all for nothing.
