Full Text
The Federalists are actually impostors and false prophets—They vowed and declared, that if ever Jefferson was placed in the presidential chair, that our churches would be demolished, and religion banished from our happy land. How reverse is the fact! Every Newspaper furnishes us with accounts of the "revival of religion," in different parts of the Union. When shall we be purged of this "race of vipers?" I see these Scribes and Pharisees, Hypocrites, who make long speeches to scare women and children?
How mortifying it is to our weekly railers against the President, that all their slander cannot provoke him to any act of severity against them or their friends! He even continues many of them in offices dependent on his pleasure, and treats them with a degree of mingled indifference, complaisance and kindness, which makes some of them ashamed of themselves.
