Thomas R. Morgan Installed as Mayor of Butte
At a meeting held Monday, May 2 at noon, Barry O'Leary, the outgoing Mayor, called the Council to order and submitted his farewell address thanking the Aldermen and city employees for their loyalty during his term of office.
Then turning the keys and gavel over to his successor, Thomas R. Morgan, he wished Mayor Morgan continued health and success in his administration and extended the same well wishes to the members of the Council. Mr. O'Leary stated that with continued co-operation our city will continue to grow and prosper.
After receiving the gavel and keys of office from his predecessor, Mayor Morgan expressed his appreciation to the retiring mayor for his good wishes, and in turn expressed similar sentiments toward the outgoing executive. Mayor O'Leary then called for a motion to adjourn sine die. The motion was made by Alderman Curran. The motion was passed unanimously and the administration of Mayor O'Leary passed into history.
Mayor Morgan was pleasantly surprised after the adjournment when former associates of the City Bus lines presented him with a pen and pencil set. The presentation was made by Tony Mihelich, president of the local union of Street Railway and Motor Car Operators. Other members of the group were Tom Dunstan, Jack Simonich and Richard Stodden.
Later Mayor Morgan was host at a luncheon attended by former Mayor O'Leary and immediate friends of the new city executive.
In conclusion Mayor Morgan appointed various committees for the ensuing year.
