Capt. Richey, who arrived here since our last from Bristol, brought in with him a large Letter of Marque Ship, of eight Guns and 26 Men, called La Vestal, Charles Ratteau Commander, which he fell in with on the 22d of April, 250 Leagues off Ushant, and engaged 5 Hours, in which Time he received no other Damage than a Shot through his Main-mast; but the Frenchman had his Fore-top-mast, Main-topgallant Mast, and the Head of his Mizen Mast shot away, and two of his Guns dismounted. She was bound to Canada from Bourdeaux, & sailed in Company with 11 other Vessels, under Convoy of a Frigate. Her Cargo consists of about 700 Barrels of Flour, 200 Barrels of Pork, 200 Casks of Wine, 200 Barrels of Brandy, 100 Casks of Butter, some Bale Goods, a Quantity of small Shot, and other Things, and it is thought will turn out a very valuable Prize. The Day before Capt. Richey took the above Ship, he met with a 64 Gun Man of War, which he took for a large Indiaman, and received his Broadside, but without damage. His Prize was chased in Latitude 38, by a Gun or two at her, she escaped to Antigua.
